About Me

I began developing web sites in 1996, mostly for personal purposes, clubs, and such. I started self-hosting ASP on IIS in 1997, learning database design and programming in general along the way. I still remember the Microsoft SiteBuilder Network fondly.

I worked at Acceleration.Net from 2000 to 2002, with Ryan, Nathan, and others upon whom I exerted slightly less influence. That's where I learned SQL Server 7 and 2000, being more or less the de facto DBA.

Since then, I've finished my BS in Information Technology, done a lot of VB6 legacy app maintenance, learned a bit of .NET, and generally made a nuisance of myself at user groups, code camps, etc.

I still keep up to date on SQL Server, trying to get Spatial datatypes into our GIS infrastructure, using PIVOT and UNPIVOT where we don't have adequate data warehousing, and otherwise trying to find the line between application code and Transact-SQL.

I'm an MCDBA and MCPD on .NET 3.5: Windows Applications.

Which confirms that I know how to take tests, and how to watch Gerry O'Brien's blog for beta exam announcements.
